A healthy spiritual life is not one constantly preoccupied with intellectual ventures, polemical arguments, cognitive exercises, and high-brow wine and cheese exchanges. No, a healthy spiritual life is one in which a balance is struck between the more serious things of life and hearty laughter, recreation, emotion, and silliness. A spiritual life lived entirely on one side or the other is seriously off-kilter. Any human being living there is surely missing the point of this life.
