Thanks for your thoughts, ck. Missed SVU last evening. It sounds interesting. I'll watch for your critique.

I do not think interpretative drama and emotional theatrics are limited or somehow special to the Assemblies of God. Is it there? Sure. I think it transfers to all holiness based movements though, Pentecostal or otherwise. This is in no way an indictment of dramatics, emotion, AG, or holiness movements. I come from these movements and cherish them. I would warn, however, against a haphazard application of dramatics and emotion to doctrine(s) or beliefs that are incurably abstract, and/or not even found in scripture.

An Important Aside: I speak not as a book based Christian, but as an equally balanced and happily healthy book and spirit based follower of Jesus Christ (it's all about context and spirit in the pomo world).

Don't know if you watch Law and Order: SVU, but last night's episode featured a "Hell House" in a show which ripped from the headlines the story of Ted Haggard. I'll have a critique up this afternoon, if you're curious. One of the participants, the pastor's son, turned out to be gay himself.

These Hell Houses started with Assemblies of God churches, and I wonder to what extent the interpretation of hell (and the use of drama) is attached to Pentecostal/charismatic hermeneutics. You would know more than I about that.

BTW, I had Robert Peterson for a few classes in seminary (cf your other post). While I can see how his writing appears psychologically disturbing (it is more so to me, one who does not believe in hell at all), the man was such a gentle soul, that I think he mourned the place his theology took him, in a way. Kind of a reluctant acceptance of what he saw as a sad necessity, from his understanding of the Bible. For what it's worth--that's my read on him, anyway.
