The Scribe Saturday Expo 12082007

I have been battling a flu-like attack for the past few days. So, blogging has been slow, as has been all other life activities. Sickness sucks. It totally flushes productivity. If you are a productivity junkie, like me, then being slowed by sickness introduces a very frustrating dynamic into daily life. Sickness usually is enough to worry about all by itself; being frustrated by sickness is an additional worry that makes dealing with sickness all the more difficult.

At any rate, since blogging here has been slow, may I suggest taking in some excellent blog posts created by members of Scribe.

Here’s a sample of the past week’s offerings:

Makeesha Fisher is blogging Advent. Advent Reflections: Day 6 and Advent Reflections: Day 5 are as poetic as they are theological. Makeesha invites us to deep contemplation and journey in this Advent season. You would do well to journey along with her this Christmas. I am especially amazed at her reflections for the sixth day.

Josh Nolt wrote a piece titled Missional for the Wrong Motive. If you are concerned about spiritual and corporate longevity, then this post is a must read. Our embrace of mission, as Josh articulates so clearly, informs our commitments, relationships, sacrifices, and hearts. This Gospel of ours is not something that we can haphazardly embrace. No! We should spend some time considering it lest we actually begin to express it based solely on the way we “feel” about certain issues, be they local or global. Josh expresses this well.

Thom Stark published a series of posts collectively titled 6 Ways of Creationism: Six Ways Young-Earth Creationists Recreate Theistic Evolutionism in Their Own Image. Thom says, in his series introduction, that the series represents something less than his best efforts. Wow! If this series is not representative of his best efforts, then I can’t wait for the finished product! Seriously, if you want a challenging and enlightening overview of the beliefs and motives behind the “Young Earth Creationist Movement” then spend some time with this series of posts.

Bill Lollar has published the second part of his Why I No Longer Celebrate Christmas series. Bill is fast becoming one of my favorite reads … and my favorite Calvinist!

Josh Brown explains Why Christmas Is Not My Favorite Holiday. The guys is brutally honest, and that is refreshing! Do check out his thoughts.

Ben Gray continues to help us all become better at blog craft by revealing Five Things I did Wrong when I Started Blogging. It’s a great read and full of helpful advice meant to save the rest of us time. Ben knows what he is talking about, so it’s a must read for anyone who wants to take their blog to the next level.

There were a few great book and music reviews this week too.

The Primal Teen: Book Review by Jake Bouma.

The Milk of Human Kindness by Amy Kaherl

Overall, the members of Scribe produced a great and enlightening week of posts. There were a few new additions to the roster too. So, be sure to head over to The Daily Scribe and catch up with the new members and all of the other great posts that were published by the writers!

Sorry to hear you’re feeling less than perky! Just wanted to say “Thanks!” for linking me in the Saturday Expo. I’m especially honored to be your “favorite Calvinist,” but some might question your sanity with such a statement. :)

As a pretty serious Anabaptist, I’m sure more than a few of my regular readers will find the statement more than surprising! I never knew I could have a favorite Calvinist!
