I have been inspired. I have been inspired not to preach or write, but to eat ethically and live healthily. I have been inspired by the gruesome and cruel images contained in a video showing ill creatures being abused in an inhumane attempt to usher them into the slaughter house. I’m not sure which is worse: treating sick but living creatures so awfully, or the simple but sickening thought of buying and eating diseased slaughter. The slaughter, packaging, and selling of diseased animals must happen all the time; the Hallmark Meat Packing Company in Chino, California just happened to get caught this time.
I won’t say anything about the growth hormones used in this industry, and any effects it has upon us and our children.
More than a few friends who are involved with our church plant are either vegans or vegetarians. They have all been good evangelists for ethical and healthy consumption and living. One of our pastors/elders is doing a 10-day Cleanse and Detoxification program; he brought his 32 oz. mixture of lukewarm water, lemon, lime, and cayenne powder to our Sunday morning gathering in the city. I gave it a taste and decided it wasn’t as bad as it sounded or looked. I then did a search on the web and found the program he was following. I’m there …
My change in lifestyle will begin with this 10-Day Cleanse and Detoxification Program. I want to detoxify and cleanse the body over which God has made me steward. When the program is complete, I will then prayerfully embark upon a lifestyle dedicated to ethical, healthy, and holistic living. I think, in this day of mass consumption, overproduction, and widespread ill-treatment of other living creatures, a Christian would do well to consider and pray about a serious change in lifestyle. We could continue to help perpetuate it all, or we could choose to live in the midst of it, but apart from it. I’ll say this too: It helps to have a few good friends with whom you can journey along, and who will lovingly point you in the right direction.
So, today I officially begin enjoying health and vigor of body, mind, or spirit.
The next seven days will serve as a preparatory stage for the actual 10-days of detoxification. Yes, the program actually begins with a week’s worth of preparation before the 10-days actually start. The program I’m using emphasizes “God’s Eight Laws of Health” during the seven days of preparation. What are God’s Eight Laws of Health? They can be summarized as follows: 1. Trust in God; 2. Fresh Air; 3. Exercise; 4. Sunshine; 5. Adequate Rest; 6. Pure Water; 7. Temperance; 8. Proper Nutrition. I will be focusing on these “laws” as I follow the practical instructions given for the seven days of preparatory work.
I will be recording a daily log here at Tribe for each day of my detox program. These logs will focus upon the effects of the detox as concerns mind, body, and spirit. I’ll also include whatever practical steps are called for by the program on each and every day. So, for example, for the next seven days I’ll be following the steps as outlined in the program, which reads:
PREPARING FOR THE CLEANSE - ONE WEEK BEFORE YOU BEGIN: Take 1 capsule of Colon Cleanse #1 with a glass of water with your evening meal and increase dosage by one additional capsule each evening until you are having at least 2 to 3 loose bowel movements per day. Eat lots of fresh fruits, salads and vegetables, and drink 8-10 glasses of water during this time as you prepare for the cleanse. Remember to obey God’s eight laws of health - (Trust in God, fresh air, exercise, sunshine, adequate rest, pure water, temperance, and proper nutrition) - during and after this program.
So, it begins! A change in lifestyle is called for at this time. Inspiration is a good thing. Again, I’ll say more about the process on each day. Hooray for day two!
