Internet Evangelism Day 2008

Are you an Internet evangelist? Do you live with an Internet evangelist? If either is the case, then by all means do check out or pass the word about Internet Evangelism Day (IED). You can access a bunch of online resources at the official IED web site that will aid you in your digital outreach and evangelism. Incidentally, Internet Evangelism Day is being celebrated on the 27th of April. Personally, I’m not sold on the idea. I think relationships in real-time are pretty important in meaningful evangelism, but with God, I know, anything is possible!

UPDATE: I received a note from Internet Evangelism Day Coordinator, Tony Whittaker. I think Tony makes some really awesome points. Check Tony’s note after the jump (reprinted with permission).

Dear Shawn

Thanks so much for blogging about IE Day!

Maybe I could just take up your point about relationships? Which I absolutely agree with. Indeed I was listening to an MP3 by Ed Stetzer yesterday, in which he said that ‘non-relational evangelism is a contradiction’.

The testimonies on our site of web-mediated conversion all demonstrate that the web started these people off, so to say, and that then relationships - whether face-to-face or my email, led them on to commitment.

The web, unlike any previous communication medium (can’t quite count the telephone here) is a two-way relational medium, not one-way ‘tracts on a screen’.

Blessings to you!

Good points, Tony. All of them. Like I said, all things are possible with God, especially as concerns his mission to re-create individuals and communities. God bless your ministry and efforts!
