The Barackroll

The Barackroll. You may be asking, “Why, Shawn? Why?” And I’d simply say the following in response: “It’s Saturday. I am busy. This is easy and fun. So, relax. Laugh. Laugh a lot! Enjoy the labors of those with way more free time on their hands than we have.”

Emergent Motivational Posters

Admittedly, these few satirical posters - sponsored by the Team Pyro folk - resonate a bit with me as I reflect upon my very limited interaction online with a few (not all) emergent participants and aficionados.

Emergent Post Critical

Emergent Unity

Emergent Attitude

More emergent motivational posters can be found hosted at the Spurgeon.org web site. It’s all tongue in check, of course. Yeah, right.

A Rainy Day Saturday is Therapy

I’m spending this rainy Saturday on sermon preparation, wrestling with the laptop/LCD projector combo, and listening to Santo Domingo De Silos Coro De Los Monjes Benedictinos: Requiem Aeternam. Between all of that wonderful activity, I’m entertaining my children and being entertained by them. There is not much to report, but there is a lot going on! Carry on, good readers.

Reading Meme and 123 Plan B

Wess tagged me with the 123 meme. Basically, the meme requires me to grab the book closest to me and punch out an excerpt based on a few rules. The rules of this meme are as follows:

1. Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more. No cheating! 2. Find page 123. 3. Find the first 5 sentences. 4. Post the next 3 sentences. 5. Tag 5 people.

So, here is mine:

“Mama, I need to talk to you. It’s important.” So you go in and muster your patience, and you help him with his fears or his thirst, and you go back to the living room and sink into your couch, and then you hear, “Mama? Please come hear one more time.” - Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith by Anne Lamott

People I’m Tagging. If you already have participated, why not do it again!

Live From 29 Palms: A Quick but Broad Update

Things are still a bit slow here at Tribe. I’ve been busy with church planting responsibilities, reading, design work, and family life in general. It’s all good, but very time consuming. Writing seems to be the first thing to be nixed from schedule when things get busy. It’s unfortunate, but unavoidable. Regular posting should resume soon.

I’m still slightly busy this morning so a quick but very broad update will have to do for the time being:

CHURCH PLANTING STUFF

God is full of surprises. We had a crowd of new visitors this past Sunday. It was awesome. They are the kind of people we need to get this movement started. They are the kind of people we have been praying for … Thanks for visiting with us! Blessings on you all!

The church plant is moving along wonderfully. It’s hard work, and it requires much, much prayer. Church planting is not for the faint of heart. Read More »

The Winner of Tribe’s First 1000 Comment Contest!

The 1000th comment has been logged! The reader who logged the 1000th comment is *Drum Roll* … Billy Chia! He hit 1000 with a trackback to the Unveiling Desktop Meme. So, congratulations to Billy for winning Tribe’s 1000 comment contest! I’ll be sending you a very cool prize (TBA) in the next few days or so. We will do it all over again at 2000! Hooray!

Unveiling the Desktop Meme

Desktop

I - being the huge fan of memes (pronounced ‘mEm) that I am - rushed to take a screen shot of my desktop. It seems I am one of the few in my circle of Internet friends that runs something other than a Mac. I’m sporting a good ‘ole PC powered by Windows Vista. Someday I’ll break free of the software tyranny!

I’m spreading the viral contagion by tagging Kathi Sharpe, Pastor Josh, and Ariah Fine. My alternate tag, just in case one drops the ball: Billy Chia.

Save Online Radio and Tune Into the TUN3R Feeling

There is no shortage of live Internet radio broadcasting sites and/or online radio tuners. They are practically a dime a dozen. A quick Google search will introduce you to more radios than you will ever actually use. They are plentiful, to be sure. They are also still in very serious danger as a result of The Copyright Royalty Board and their controversial 300 to 1,200 percent royalty rate hikes. These hikes could spell the end of online radio. The huge jump in royalty rates would devastate webcaster revenue and effectively bury independent artists. Congress will most likely decide the future of online radio, if it has not already been decided. Read More »
