I just stumbled upon a cache of some great Christian desktop wallpapers.

Tumble-Hybrid Sandbox Port Theme

This theme [Tumble-Hybrid] is licensed: GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE. This means you can modify it and re-distribute it freely, and - if you are feeling extra generous - leave the footer’s design credit line intact. It would be nice if people could still find the download page for the theme. So, please consider leaving some sort of link in place. Read More »

The Use of Stock Photos on Church Websites

A question for designers: What do you think of church websites that use tons of royalty free, stock photo images of people and families? Seriously? Is this some sort of false-image creation, or something slightly worse? None of the people in these stock photos actually attend these churches, right? In fact, I think it’s safe to say the people pictured never even heard of the church. So, is a liberal use of royalty free, stock photo images of people and families proper for a church website? I’m very, very interested in your thoughts on the matter.

Personally, I think it is a poor choice to use images of people and families on your site, if these people don’t actually attend the church. I almost want to call it false advertising, but I honestly think it’s something a tad worse (it’s church!). Read More »

The Hardest Part is Complete

Well, the hardest part of the port to Sandbox is complete, I think. It was a lot of work, to be completely honest. The asides method was quick and easy in comparison, but the Sandbox method is much, much cleaner. I still have a lot of tweaking to do. So, please excuse any messes you find.

The Final Live-Redesign of Lo-Fi Tribe is Now Complete

What probably will be the final re-design of Tribe is now complete. I needed a distraction for a few hours and as usual I found the joy that is rearranging Tribe to be more than distracting enough for me and my busy mind. So, it is done. I like it too. I’m really weary of the blog or blog-ish looking front page, and though the proverbial perimeter is limited in this medium, I tried to push as far up against it as my limited skills would let me. I like it. That’s what matters at the end of the hour. Read More »

A Design Reboot, Punching Stereotype, and Jonny Baker

So, a quick update is in order. I say ‘quick’ because this week is going to be overflowing with action and excitement. I’m off and running as soon as this post is published. Seriously, I’m not sure there is a more action packed life than that of the theologist (credit for ‘theologist’ goes to Titanic super guru J. Cameron). Read More »

Color Relations and Websites as Graphic Forms

I think color has much to do with presentation and representation. Color speaks volumes about what is going on beneath visible surfaces. Subconscious color choices can give us a deeper and discerning peek into attitudes, feelings and potential possibilities. Premeditated or conscious color choices can set the tone of our agenda and seriously influence present & future direction. A cheerful effort - regardless of the specifics of said effort - will be represented by bright colors, most of the time. Simplistic colors - like black and white - can also be used to move or direct eyes toward a specific and pure target, such as textual content published by an online newspaper or weblog. Color is so important in our everyday lives and cumulative journeys. Color and its effects are simply amazing. Read More »
