Twelfth Station: Jesus’ Death on the Cross.

ASV Mark 15:33-37: 33 And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 35 And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” 36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” 37 And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.

Jesus of Nazareth died at noon. There, on that cross, Jesus died, but victoriously so. Yes. Victoriously!

What at first appeared to be defeat was actually divine triumph! The unholy trinity (i.e., sin, death, and the devil) believed that ultimate supremacy could be won by killing The Christ. They were wrong! Christ’s life, death and resurrection proved to much for the evil that rages so freely upon this earth. God laid claim to His child and the curse of evil was broken. Christ is victorious! The work of Christ is a victory over the powers which hold mankind in bondage: sin, death, and the devil (1 Jn 3:8; Col 1:13; Heb 2:14). Christus Victor. God be praised!
